Terms & Conditions for Children’s Classes
Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully before registering for a class with North London Street Dance Academy (NLSDA).
By registering a student, accepting a class place or continuing an NLSDA membership or subscription, the parent/carer confirms that they have read, understood and accepted these Terms & Conditions.
1. Class Fees and Monthly subscription payments
North London Street Dance Academy operates a Monthly membership subscription model, allowing families to spread the cost of classes evenly across the dance year.
Standard Academy Membership
£32 per month, payable over 12 equal monthly instalments through our monthly membership subscription.
All standard NLSDA academy classes are charged at £32 per month, payable over 12 equal monthly instalments from August to July.
This Monthly membership subscription secures your child’s place within their class for the dance year and allows families to budget with one consistent monthly subscription throughout the year.
Monthly subscription payments continue during school holidays and months where fewer or no regular classes take place.
Monday Academy Classes
Due to recurring Monday bank holidays and the reduced number of scheduled Monday teaching sessions throughout the academic year, academy classes held on a Monday operate on a separate Monthly membership subscription rate.
The applicable Monthly membership subscription for Monday classes will be published each academic year before enrolment opens.
Why are payments collected from August?
Although regular classes begin in September, Monthly membership subscriptions begin in August.
The August payment is not a payment for classes taking place during August. It is simply the first of twelve equal monthly instalments covering your child’s place for the forthcoming dance year.
Spreading payments across twelve months allows families to budget with consistent monthly payments rather than larger payments during teaching months.
Other Programmes
After-school clubs operate under a separate school-based pricing structure and are currently charged at £8 per scheduled session, unless otherwise stated.
Performing groups, specialist programmes and enhanced training programmes operate under separate pricing structures and/or supplementary agreements.
Any alternative pricing will always be communicated before registration.
2. New Students Joining During the Dance Year
Students joining during the dance year will only be charged from their agreed start date.
Where a student joins part-way through a month, any classes attended before their regular Monthly membership subscription begins will be charged as a covering payment.
This covering payment may either:
be added to the following monthly payment; or
be paid separately by prior arrangement with NLSDA.
Students will never be charged for classes that took place before their agreed joining date.
Students Joining from 1 May
Students joining on or after 1 May will normally be offered a bespoke payment arrangement for the remainder of the current dance year.
This ensures families are only charged for the remaining teaching period before moving onto the standard Monthly membership subscription from August for the new dance year.
4. Students Joining from 1 May
Students joining on or after 1 May are treated as late-year joiners for payment purposes.
Rather than joining the existing August-to-July instalment schedule for the final months of that dance year, the student will normally be charged for the remaining scheduled sessions at the applicable session rate.
This may be collected as a one-off payment or through an alternative short-term payment arrangement agreed by NLSDA.
If the student continues into the following dance year, their normal 12-month instalment schedule will begin in August.
This ensures that students joining towards the end of the dance year are charged only for the remaining scheduled sessions before the summer break.
5. Adding an Additional Class or Sibling
Where an existing student adds an additional class during the dance year, fees for the additional class will be calculated from the agreed start date.
Any covering payment due before the regular membership subscription begins may be added to a following payment or paid separately by arrangement.
Where a sibling joins NLSDA, their fees and membership will be calculated according to their individual joining date and class programme.
Adding a sibling or additional class may result in an additional payment being collected at a different point within the payment year.
6. Payment Method and Due Dates
Monthly membership subscriptions must be made through the payment method specified by NLSDA and/or ClassForKids.
Regular monthly membership subscriptions are due on or before the 1st of each calendar month.
Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring that payment details remain accurate and up to date.
Failure to make payment may result in the student’s place being temporarily suspended until the outstanding balance has been cleared or an agreed payment arrangement is in place.
7. Annual Academy Membership Fee
Membership fees secure a students reserved place within the academy and are not calculated solely on attendance at individual classes.
A £20 annual membership and administration fee is payable for eligible NLSDA students unless the relevant class or programme is specifically exempt.
The fee contributes towards the ongoing administration and operation of NLSDA, including booking and account administration, insurance, music licensing, safeguarding requirements, DBS checks, first aid requirements, customer support, class planning, affiliated memberships and academy community and performance activities.
The annual membership fee is non-refundable.
New students are charged the membership fee when registering for an eligible NLSDA programme.
For continuing students, the annual membership fee renews each August.
After-school clubs and other specifically identified programmes may be exempt from the annual membership fee because they operate under a separate programme and administrative structure.
Where a parent/carer believes a membership fee has been duplicated incorrectly, they should contact NLSDA so the account can be reviewed.
8. Missed Classes and Student Absence
Missed classes are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Monthly membership subscriptions remain payable regardless of student absence because the student’s class place remains reserved.
NLSDA cannot provide refunds or credits for holidays, school commitments, short-term illness or other personal absences.
Where a student experiences a significant or long-term medical issue, parents/carers should contact the Director.
Any account freeze or alternative arrangement will be considered individually and may require supporting medical information.
9. Cancellation and Notice Period
One full calendar month’s written notice is required to cancel a student’s membership subscription and reserved class place.
Notice must be provided in writing directly to NLSDA.
Payments remain due throughout the applicable notice period.
Cancelling a Direct Debit or payment instruction does not constitute notice of cancellation.
No refunds will be provided for partial months, unused classes or unused annual membership fees.
10. Late Payments
A late payment fee of £10 may be applied where an account remains unpaid after the due date unless a prior payment arrangement has been agreed with the Director.
Students with outstanding fees may be unable to attend classes, performances or NLSDA events until the account is brought up to date or an agreed payment arrangement is in place.
Parents/carers experiencing payment difficulties are encouraged to contact NLSDA as early as possible.
11. Trial Sessions and Accepting a Class Place
NLSDA offers two paid trial sessions for eligible academy classes at the advertised session rate.
Trials must be booked and paid for in advance and are subject to class availability.
Following completion of the trial sessions, parents/carers must notify NLSDA within 72 hours if they wish to accept an ongoing place in the class.
Where a student accepts a place, they are expected to continue into the class from the next scheduled session following their trial period.
The student’s ongoing class place and applicable fees will begin from the next scheduled class once the place has been accepted.
A class place cannot normally be accepted and then held without payment for a student to begin at a later date. This is because the place is reserved exclusively for that student and may otherwise have been offered to another student.
If a parent/carer wishes to delay their child’s start date following a trial, this must be discussed with and agreed by NLSDA in writing before the place is accepted.
Where a delayed start has not been agreed in advance, applicable class fees will remain payable from the next scheduled session following acceptance of the place, regardless of whether the student attends.
If a family is not ready for the student to begin classes immediately following the trial period, they may decline the place and enquire again when they are ready to start. Any future place will be subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Participation in a trial does not guarantee an ongoing place until the place has been formally accepted and the relevant registration and payment arrangements have been completed.
Students may only complete a trial period once per class type.
Students returning after previously leaving NLSDA will be required to register as a full student, subject to availability.
Paid trials may not be available for after-school clubs, HGS programmes or other specifically identified sessions.
12. Private Lessons
Cancellations for pre-booked private lessons must be made at least 48 hours before the scheduled session.
Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice may be charged in full.
13. Emergency Contact and Collection
Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring that NLSDA holds accurate and up-to-date emergency contact information.
If someone other than the student’s usual parent/carer will be collecting the child, NLSDA or the relevant teaching staff must be informed in advance.
Children must be collected promptly at the end of their class.
14. Medical Conditions, Allergies and Injuries
Parents/carers must inform NLSDA of any medical conditions, allergies, additional needs or injuries that may affect a student’s participation or require staff awareness.
Information must be kept up to date through the relevant booking system and communicated directly to NLSDA where appropriate.
Students must follow reasonable safety instructions given by NLSDA staff.
NLSDA cannot take appropriate precautions for medical conditions, allergies or injuries that have not been disclosed.
15. Photography and Media
NLSDA may take photographs and videos during classes, rehearsals, performances, workshops and events for educational, communication and promotional purposes where the relevant consent has been provided.
Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring their photography and media permissions are correctly selected and kept up to date through ClassForKids.
Where consent has not been provided, NLSDA will take reasonable steps to exclude the student from identifiable promotional media.
Parents/carers may take photographs or videos at performances unless otherwise instructed.
Photography and filming by parents/carers is not permitted during regular classes or closed rehearsals unless authorised by NLSDA.
16. Staffing, Developing Teachers and Young Leaders
NLSDA reserves the right to use appropriately selected cover or substitute teachers where required.
As part of NLSDA’s commitment to developing the next generation of dance teachers and leaders, classes may occasionally be supported or delivered in whole or in part by developing teachers, teaching assistants, young leaders or participants within an NLSDA training and leadership programme.
This may include developing teachers or young leaders leading warm-ups, activities, sections of choreography or, where considered appropriately trained and ready by NLSDA, delivering elements of a class within the academy’s agreed teaching structure.
The level of responsibility given will be determined by NLSDA based on the individual’s age, experience, training and demonstrated ability.
Appropriate safeguarding procedures will be followed.
Individuals requiring a DBS check for their role will be DBS checked in accordance with applicable safeguarding requirements.
A suitably qualified first aid person will be present or available on site during children’s classes.
Young leaders or developing staff under the age of 18 will not be treated as the sole responsible adult for a children’s class.
NLSDA retains overall responsibility for class delivery, safeguarding and the supervision and development of its teaching team.
Parents/carers accept that their child’s class may be supported or delivered by members of NLSDA’s developing teaching and leadership team as part of the academy’s structured training and development pathway.
17. Communication and Administration
NLSDA communicates important information regarding classes, payments, rehearsals, performances, deadlines and events primarily through email and the academy’s designated communication channels.
Parents/carers are responsible for ensuring that their contact information is kept up to date and for regularly checking NLSDA communications.
Parents/carers are encouraged to review booking information, payment information and these Terms & Conditions before contacting NLSDA with administrative queries.
NLSDA will aim to respond to administrative enquiries within five working days.
Messages sent through social media accounts or informal messaging channels may not be treated as formal notice of cancellation, withdrawal or other contractual notice.
Where written notice is required under these Terms & Conditions, notice must be provided directly to NLSDA through the specified communication method.
NLSDA cannot accept responsibility for missed deadlines, rehearsals, performances or other information where the relevant details have been communicated to the contact information held on the student’s account.
18. Data Protection and Privacy
NLSDA processes personal information for purposes including class administration, payments, communication, safeguarding and the delivery of dance services.
Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable UK data protection legislation.

19. Annual Show, Rehearsals and Costumes
NLSDA holds an annual show which forms an important part of the academy programme.
Students attending participating academy classes during the relevant show term will be assumed to be taking part in the annual show unless their parent/carer informs NLSDA otherwise in writing by the published show participation deadline.
The participation deadline will be communicated to families in advance.
Withdrawing from the Annual Show
Parents/carers must notify NLSDA in writing before the published participation deadline if their child will not be taking part in the annual show.
NLSDA plans choreography, formations, staffing, rehearsal venues, costumes and production arrangements based on expected participant numbers.
After the published withdrawal deadline, NLSDA may have already committed to costs and made arrangements based on the student’s participation.
Where a student withdraws after the published deadline, rehearsal fees, costume hire fees or other show-related costs already committed or reasonably incurred in relation to that student’s expected participation may remain payable.
Notifying NLSDA after an additional rehearsal has taken place or shortly before the show does not automatically remove show-related fees or costs that have already been committed.
These charges are intended to contribute towards costs already committed in preparation for the student’s participation and are not a penalty for withdrawing.
Class Participation During Show Preparation
During periods of annual show preparation, regular classes may include choreography, formations, spacing, staging and rehearsal activities specifically relating to the upcoming performance.
Students who are not participating in the annual show will continue to be included in the class and will be given appropriate opportunities to dance, practise choreography or complete an alternative activity where reasonably possible.
However, students who are not participating in the show may occasionally be asked to observe, practise to the side or temporarily step out of specific sections of a rehearsal.
This may be necessary to allow participating students to practise accurate stage formations, spacing, partner work, entrances, exits or other performance-specific arrangements.
As a result, students who are not participating in the annual show may not take part in every element of a class during periods of focused show preparation.
This is not intended as a punishment or exclusion. It is a practical part of preparing participating students safely and accurately for a live performance.
Normal class fees and monthly membership subscriptions remain payable during show preparation periods.
A student choosing not to participate in the annual show does not automatically entitle them to a refund, credit or reduction in class fees where parts of a session are focused on show-specific rehearsal and staging.
Additional Show Rehearsals
Additional rehearsals may be scheduled outside regular class times.
These rehearsals may carry a separate fee to contribute towards venue hire, staffing and rehearsal costs.
Rehearsal dates, participation expectations and fees will be communicated to families in advance.
Where a student has been included as a show participant and has not been withdrawn by the published participation deadline, applicable rehearsal fees may remain payable even if the student does not attend the rehearsal or subsequently withdraws after costs have been committed.
Costume Hire
NLSDA may provide costumes on a hire basis for the annual show, performances and other events.
A costume hire fee may apply and will be communicated to parents/carers in advance.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, hired costumes remain the property of NLSDA.
Costumes must be returned by the published costume return deadline and in accordance with any return instructions provided by NLSDA.
All costume pieces and accessories supplied must be returned.
A £10 late return fee may be charged where a hired costume is returned after the published deadline.
Where a costume or costume item is lost, significantly damaged or not returned, the parent/carer may be charged the reasonable replacement cost.
Parents/carers should contact NLSDA before the return deadline where exceptional circumstances prevent a costume from being returned on time.
Show Tickets and Additional Costs
Show tickets are not included within monthly membership subscriptions, annual membership fees, rehearsal fees or costume hire fees and must be purchased separately.
Any additional show-related costs will be communicated to families in advance.
A student’s decision not to participate in the annual show does not reduce their normal monthly membership subscriptions, as monthly instalments relate to the scheduled annual class programme.
20. Discretionary and Goodwill Refunds
Where NLSDA agrees to issue a refund as a gesture of goodwill or at its discretion, and where the refund is not otherwise legally required, any non-refundable payment processing or transaction fees already incurred by NLSDA may be deducted from the amount refunded.
Any deduction will reflect the actual non-recoverable fee incurred in relation to the original payment.
This does not affect a parent/carer’s statutory consumer rights or any refund legally due.
21. Casting Decisions
Casting, positioning, choreography and role allocation within performances are at the professional discretion of the NLSDA teaching and creative team.
Decisions may take into account choreography, attendance, age, ability, confidence, safety and the requirements of the performance.
Casting decisions are final.
22. Student Behaviour and Code of Conduct
Students are expected to behave respectfully towards teachers, staff, other students, venue staff and members of the community.
Students must follow reasonable instructions provided by NLSDA staff.
NLSDA reserves the right to temporarily or permanently remove a student from a class where persistent disruptive, unsafe or inappropriate behaviour occurs.
Behaviour that places another student, member of staff or individual at immediate risk may result in immediate removal from the session pending review.
Parents/carers are expected to communicate respectfully with NLSDA staff.
Students and families are expected to represent NLSDA positively when attending performances and community events.
Parents/carers must park considerately around NLSDA venues and dispose of litter responsibly.
23. Anti-Bullying Policy
NLSDA has a zero-tolerance approach to bullying.
Bullying may include repeated physical, verbal, emotional or online behaviour intended to hurt, intimidate, exclude or negatively affect another person.
All concerns regarding bullying should be reported to the NLSDA Director as soon as possible.
Reports will be considered and addressed in accordance with NLSDA safeguarding procedures.
Where bullying is persistent, serious or places another child at risk, NLSDA reserves the right to suspend or remove the student responsible.
Where a safeguarding concern indicates that a child may be at risk of harm, NLSDA may refer the concern to the appropriate safeguarding authority.
NLSDA Student Values
Be kind.
Speak up if you see or experience bullying.
Respect others regardless of their background, religion, disability, ability or culture.
Make sure everyone has a voice.
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
Help create a safe and positive environment for everyone.
24. Class Cancellations by NLSDA
If NLSDA cancels a scheduled class, NLSDA will aim to provide a replacement or make-up session.
Where a replacement session cannot reasonably be provided, an appropriate credit will be applied.
Where a make-up session is provided, an individual refund or credit will not normally be issued if a student is unable to attend the replacement date.
Where a venue cancels a session and NLSDA cannot provide a replacement session or suitable alternative arrangement, an appropriate credit will be considered.
25. Weather and Circumstances Beyond NLSDA’s Control
Classes may occasionally be affected by circumstances outside NLSDA’s reasonable control, including severe weather, transport disruption, emergency service or police activity, venue emergencies or other significant external events.
NLSDA will communicate with families as soon as reasonably possible and will consider alternative arrangements where practical.
Any refund, credit or replacement session will be considered according to the circumstances and costs reasonably recoverable by NLSDA.
26. Minimum Class Numbers
NLSDA reserves the right to cancel, combine or restructure a class where minimum enrolment numbers are not met.
Where a class is discontinued, parents/carers may be offered a transfer to a suitable alternative class.
Where no suitable alternative is available, payments relating to undelivered future sessions will be refunded or credited as appropriate.
27. Illness and Injury
Students should not attend class where they are unwell and participation may place themselves or others at risk.
Normal missed class terms apply to short-term illness or injury.
Where a student experiences a significant or long-term injury or medical condition that prevents participation, parents/carers should contact NLSDA to discuss their account and class place.
Any freeze or alternative payment arrangement is at NLSDA’s discretion and may require appropriate medical evidence.
28. Summer Camps and Workshops
NLSDA runs holiday camps, intensives and workshops which may be open to current NLSDA students and non-members.
Spaces are limited and allocated subject to availability.
Full payment is required at the time of booking unless an alternative payment arrangement is specifically advertised.
Camp and workshop bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable unless otherwise stated or NLSDA cancels the programme.
Where a participant is unable to attend due to a significant medical reason, NLSDA may consider a credit or alternative arrangement on receipt of appropriate medical evidence.
Participants must bring any items listed within the individual booking information.
NLSDA may operate a no nuts and sesame policy where specified within the programme information.
Photography and video permissions apply to camps and workshops.
NLSDA behaviour, safeguarding and collection expectations also apply to holiday programmes.
Children must be collected promptly.
Persistent or significant late collection may result in an additional charge where communicated or may affect future participation.
NLSDA reserves the right to cancel a camp or workshop where minimum capacity is not reached.
Where NLSDA cancels the programme, payments for the cancelled programme will be refunded.
29. Complaints
Complaints must be submitted in writing to NLSDA.
NLSDA will aim to acknowledge and respond to complaints within five working days.
Where further investigation is required, the parent/carer will be informed.
30. Changes to Classes, Fees and Terms
NLSDA may review class timetables, teaching arrangements, fees and these Terms & Conditions.
Where a material change affects an existing student’s ongoing payment or membership arrangement, NLSDA will provide reasonable notice before the change takes effect.
The current version of the NLSDA Terms & Conditions will be made available to parents/carers.
Acceptance of Terms
